Scholar Athlete of the Week: Taylor Davis
By Chelsa Messinger
Glenwood Senior Taylor Davis has worked hard for his 4.1 GPA. But coincidentally, his hard work in the classroom has paid off in other ways.
“The mental aspect,” said Davis. “That's been a hard part for me since little league. But I've learned to get over that, and it's starting to come together this year,” said Davis.
Head Baseball Coach Tim Fanning knows that the things he teaches in practice aren't limited to just the baseball field.
“Sports is a precursor to life,” said Coach Fanning. “When you make a bad grade, the season's not over. So get back, work again, just like when you have a bad game.”
But for Davis, it's not always about the outcome.
“I mean, my parents have instilled in me for a long time, to do as best as I possibly can,” said Davis. “Even if I make an “A” it doesn't really matter, just as long as I've done everything I can do,” said Davis.
Since Glenwood isn't just a high school, but also a middle school, Coach Fanning has seen Davis mature, both mentally and physically.
“His future is extremely bright,” said Coach Fanning. “I think he can translate everything that he's learned out here into the real world, I'm glad to be his coach.”
