COLUMBUS, GA –   A Russell County High School baseball coach is a free man after a judge drops a simple battery charge.

Michael Garland, the junior varsity coach, was charged last month after a brawl erupted during a game at Northside High School.

Parents of a Northside player alleged Garland punched their son in the face multiple times while he was trying to break up the fight.

At Monday's court hearing, a Russell County player admitted he was the one who punched the Northside player.

The Northside coach and almost a dozen other witnesses said the same thing.
