Filmmakers looking for local veterans for movie

Columbus-  Two independent movie producers are holding a casting call in Columbus for Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans.

We met with the two involved with the project, Chris Knittel and Damon Russell, outside the Ranger Joe's on Victory Drive to talk about the project.

The movie deals with veterans from the War on Terror and how their experiences have had a lasting impact on them.  They say they are looking for any veterans of the war to be in the movie.

Russell says as the wars wind down this movie looks to tell the message of the people who fought in those wars. “They come back, a lot of them they don't have jobs, and sometimes they have difficulty transitioning back.”

Russell continues, “You don't often get to hear their side of it.  You know you have a lot of politicians and stuff who try to speak for them but we're really interested in hearing their story, their side of it, and we think that could be really compelling.”

The filmmakers hope to get started filming early next year.

Here's a look at who they're looking for in the role:

“Looking for charismatic, intelligent, and outspoken returning military veterans to appear in a upcoming film. Age, race and gender are unimportant, but you must have served a tour in either Iraq or Afghanistan to apply.

Also looking for rural, roughneck country types. If you've grown up in the South, lived in rural areas all your life, and have an interesting personality, we are looking for you.

The film will be mostly documentary with a dash of embellishment. We want to explore how you've changed as a person after the war and what life is like for you now that you have returned. We will interweave the elements of your real life with current events and loosely scripted scenes.
