Armed & Dangerous
OKLahoma City, OK (KFOR) – Casey Downes of Chickashas, Oklahoma has been in and out of jail a lot.
He was most recently arrested for assault and battery.
His weapon of choice wasn't a knife, gun or club.
Police say he armed himself with his prosthetic limb.
The unusual arrest began as a routine traffic stop.
The suspect was pulled over for an illegal turn.
When the officer approached the car, he smelled alcohol.
Officer Chad King asked Casey Downes to take a sobriety test and then the fight began.
Witnesses say Downes tried to run away but King tackled him.
A Good Samaritan jumped in to help after the officer took several hits to the face with a hook on the prosthetic arm.
“We heard a commotion so me and a friend went outside to see if the cop needed help. I know they're out there doing the right thing so I was willing to help out if I had to,” said eyewitness Kyle Huggins.
With the assistance of an anonymous citizen, Downes was eventually taken into custody.
Police report finding methamphetamine and a drug pipe inside his car.
Chickasha Police Chief Elip Moore said this bust was anything but ordinary.
“Those things are heavier than an actual arm so it's more dangerous than being punched in the face. The hook can cause serious injury.”
Casey Downes is facing multiple charges including possession of drugs, resisting arrest and assault with a dangerous weapon.
The officer was treated at the hospital and cleared to return to work.
