Obtain a State ID Online

PRESS RELEASE

Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has a handy tip for those customers who no longer drive but need photo identification.  Customers with a driving record on file with DDS may now request a Georgia identification card online.  This photo ID can be used instead of an unused or expired Georgia driver's license as proof of identity for air travel, banking, medical care, and other transactions.

This addition to the DDS' Internet services menu will save customers a trip to a licensing customer service center.  This will be particularly helpful for customers who have difficulty visiting in person.  DDS Internet services are available 24 hours seven days a week.  Moreover, use of this convenient functionality will also save the customer $5.00 off the regular fee for an identification card.  Veterans who have previously provided the necessary documentation would be eligible for a free ID.

Recent web service enhancements at www.dds.ga.gov enable customers to create a secure, personal account and then immediately conduct multiple transactions at one time — such as making a change of address and ordering a state ID card.  After completing service, a new card is mailed to the customer's address on file and delivered within 14 days.

“Please consider using DDS online services,” said DDS Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier.  “Not only will you save valuable time and money, but you will help conserve fuel that benefits the environment,” he added.
